Commercial Director & Director of Legal Services
I am, by profession, a lawyer and litigator. I also run on creativity, energy and enthusiasm making me an ‘ideas-man’ at heart. As CEO, I work with my fellow Partners and employees to develop strategies to approach, manage and deliver customer excellence, continued industry recognition and ultimately, growth for Brethertons LLP. I was appointed as CEO in August 2014 and sit on the Executive Committee (affectionately known as “ExCo”) with overall strategic ownership for the firm (the Chambers and Partners Guide to the UK Legal Profession 2014 described me as “extremely impressive and a fantastic figurehead for the firm”!). Admitted as a solicitor in 1986, I’ve specialised in Litigation for my entire career and am also a practising Commercial Mediator.
Amongst my key career achievements, I would count setting up Brethertons’ Property Management Team in 2008, which now represents 30% of the firm’s annual turnover. I’m also really proud of my work on our webinar programme. I designed, implemented and hosted the original programme which has grown from 4 events a year in 2005, to over 70 in 2014. We regularly partner and promote webinars with national publications and trade associations.
Another thing I’m really pleased to have had a hand in is the annual Property Management Summit, a weekend-long conference which started life as the Institute of Residential Property Management (IRPM) Revision Weekend in 2007. I established the event to provide training to senior Property Managers who were planning to sit the IRPM Members exam. The event has grown from 15 to 150 delegates and is now a three-day event held at the University of Warwick.
I’m a serial networker and have hosted numerous dinner, lunch and breakfast meetings with speakers including David Cameron, Boris Johnson, Lord Digby Jones and Roger Black!
I enjoy cooking, golfing and more recently, cycling. As a cook I have the flair and passion of Jamie Oliver, with occasional language of Gordon Ramsay; as a golfer, I have much to learn and as cyclist, I won’t be on the tail of Sir Bradley Wiggins any time soon.
